Umm Al-Qura University Registers New Patent with USPTO for Smart Electrical Grid Innovation

Umm Al-Qura University has registered a new patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), entitled: “System and Method for Balancing Three-Phase Currents in Low-Voltage Electrical Distribution Networks.”

The achievement reflects the university’s efforts to advance scientific research and innovation and develop technological solutions in electrical engineering and energy.

The invention involves an intelligent system designed to balance three-phase currents in low-voltage electrical distribution networks in real time. By maintaining balance across the three phases, the system is designed to improve electrical load management, reduce power losses, and enhance network efficiency and operational reliability.

The invention is expected to benefit several sectors, including electricity distribution networks, energy companies and utilities, residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, smart buildings, and power systems and networks, which require real-time balancing of electrical loads and currents.

The innovation is particularly significant for its potential to address current imbalances between phases in low-voltage distribution networks, reduce power losses, and improve network efficiency, power quality, and stability. It also supports the development of advanced engineering solutions and smart technologies for the electricity sector.
