Buraidah Watermelon Market Marks Strong Start to Qassim Agricultural Season

Buraidah markets in Qassim Region are witnessing the early start of the watermelon season, one of the largest in Saudi Arabia, as the seasonal market continues to serve as a key agricultural and economic hub supporting farmers, boosting summer trade activity, and contributing to the local economy through growing supply and sales that benefit hundreds of farms

According to Eng. Badr Al-Harbi, the watermelon season is one of the region’s most important agricultural periods, showing continuous annual growth driven by strong local quality and rising demand. The market receives around 40 truckloads daily, which are distributed across the Kingdom, with trading beginning after Fajr prayer until 7:30 a.m. The season runs from April to October, and Saudi Arabia has achieved 98% self-sufficiency in watermelon production, exceeding 613,000 tons annually.

Farmer Abdullah Al-Saawi noted strong production and quality this season, supported by good agricultural practices and active market demand, while authorities continue oversight to ensure product safety and market regulation.
