RGA Enhances Network Monitoring with Smart Control Center Ahead of Hajj
The Roads General Authority (RGA) has reinforced its road network monitoring capabilities through an integrated smart control center for road operation and maintenance, positioning it as a central component of traffic management during the Hajj season.
The authority stated that the center plays a key role in improving infrastructure efficiency and traffic safety by leveraging advanced monitoring and control technologies, enabling rapid response to operational changes across the network.
According to the RGA, the center supports real-time decision-making and facilitates coordination among relevant entities, contributing to smoother operations and enhanced safety for pilgrims. It is equipped with 50 AI-enabled cameras and staffed by specialized personnel to monitor routes to the holy sites and other high-density areas.
The system provides round-the-clock surveillance of the road network, tracks weather conditions in real time, and delivers immediate alerts to road users regarding rainfall or sandstorms through variable message signs. It also provides maintenance and operations teams with live data and generates periodic performance reports, while maintaining continuous coordination with the relevant authorities.
The authority noted that the center operates through an integrated technological ecosystem that includes traffic incident detection systems, vehicle counting devices, electronic signage, and tracking systems for maintenance and patrol units, all linked to road events in real time. These components are unified within an advanced data and analytics platform designed to enhance service delivery and ensure a safe and efficient travel experience for pilgrims.
