SDAIA Introduces National Framework for Managing AI Risks
The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has launched a national AI risk management framework, providing a unified national methodology for identifying, assessing, treating, and monitoring AI risks. The framework aims to enable public and private entities to adopt AI safely and responsibly.
SDAIA noted that AI risks differ from traditional software risks because they may emerge unexpectedly, change over time, and prove difficult to explain or reproduce. This requires an integrated approach to risk management.
The framework's risk management methodology follows four interconnected phases: defining context and scope, identifying and assessing risks, treating risks, and continuous monitoring and review. Risk levels are calculated using a matrix that links the probability of occurrence with the scale of impact.
The framework is built on seven core principles, including integrity, privacy, transparency, and accountability. It also classifies AI risks into seven main types to ensure comprehensive coverage.
The framework supports SDAIA's role as the national reference for data and AI and its efforts to promote the responsible use of AI, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
