Madinah's Green Lemons: A Seasonal Delight

Madinah's distinctive green lemons, in season from June through August, bring their unique flavor and aroma to local markets as a vibrant citrus that thrives in the region's climate and clay soil, making them a prominent crop in the area's farms, including many palm groves.

The adaptability of these lemons to Madinah's dry conditions, combined with the region's fertile soil, contributes to their widespread cultivation. While some growers nurture the plants from seed, others prefer planting ready-made seedlings in their yards or on rooftops, adding a touch of natural beauty and a pleasant scent to their homes.

Known for their small size and signature green hue, Madinah lemons are a versatile ingredient. They are popular for juicing and cooking and are often served with hot dishes like legumes and dairy products, as well as in salads. The early summer harvest, which can extend to September, provides a generous supply of these aromatic lemons.

Cultivation is extensive across Madinah Region, particularly in the southern farms and along the Hijrah Road. AlUla Governorate also contributes significantly to the supply of these beloved green lemons and other citrus varieties.
